In the stable

Perrot got up and fastidiously patted the straw from his clothes. "However, because there are still a few areas that urgently need better illumination, I will now ask another person to join our circle. In order to do that, I just have to put my hand on the latch of this stable door, open it and ask Mademoiselle Magda in, who for some time has been pacing the stone floor in her bare feet.“
Perrot gently pushed against the stable door. Without a sound, it swung open into the darkness. In the resulting draught, he caught the faint smell of lubricating oil. Outside, in the dim glow of the light beam stood Magda and looked at him. At the same moment, Perrot heard a fearful scream behind him and the voice of Constable Weidenthal. “Monsieur Perrot. The dogs.“
Perrot spun around. Suddenly everyone was in motion. Only Magda, outside in the dark, didn't move. “What’s going on in there? Can I possibly be of help…”
Perrot was just about to help the Constable who put his full weight against the door behind which the dogs raged. His vehement determination almost tempted Perrot to make a similar effort. A slight dissonance in Magda’s voice, however, caused him to pause in his movement…
